Frequently asked questions about the translation of divorce documents

Why do I need a certified translation of a divorce decree?

Whether it's a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or divorce decree – for the recognition of documents by foreign authorities, courts, and registry offices, a certified translation is usually required. These are prepared by sworn translators who are state-certified and authorized to translate official documents and certificates with certification.

Where can I get a divorce decree translated?

For the translation of your divorce decree, you should always contact a specialized translation agency. Here, state-certified translators will translate your documents and provide certified translations into the desired target language. These translations are generally accepted by foreign courts and authorities.

How much does a certified translation of a divorce decree cost?

We offer certified translations of your divorce decree at a fair price starting from €48.90 (depending on the number of pages and language combination). This price includes the translation service, fast and high-quality processing by our sworn translators, and of course, the official certification of the translation.

Into which languages can I have my divorce decree translated?

At Beglaubigung24 you can order certified translations in 19 language combinations. One of the two languages, i.e. the source or target language, should be German.

Our language combinations are:

German - English

Who translates and certifies a divorce decree?

Divorce decrees and certificates are translated exclusively by sworn translators, as only then are they recognized by official institutions. These translators are state-certified (in our case, in Germany) and have taken an oath before a regional court, a higher regional court, or an internal authority. You can usually find these authorized translators at a professional translation agency – or simply online with us.

How do I set the number of pages?

A single page means one side of one sheet of paper – irrespective of the number of words on that page. The front and back sides of a double-sided document are considered two separate pages. All relevant pages in the original document are counted for the translation. The ‘number of pages’ comprises the total number of individual pages. Learn more here.

Will my data and information contained in the documents be kept confidential?

Of course, we handle all data we receive from you or from your documents with the utmost confidentiality - you can be sure of that! Because: In addition to certifications for translation services (ISO 17100) and quality management (ISO 9001), our service has an excellent information security management system according to ISO/IEC 27001.

  • You need them for that.

A certified translation of a divorce certificate is usually only accepted by foreign courts and authorities. A simple translation is often insufficient – this applies to most official documents, by the way. But when do you actually need a certified translation of your divorce decree? Basically, whenever you have to present it to an authority or court abroad. The reasons for this can vary: for example, in the case of remarriage, i.e., registering a new marriage, or when applying for a name change after a divorce.

At Beglaubigung24, we translate and certify your divorce document: 1. If you need your German-language divorce decree in another language, or 2. if you need the foreign-language document in German to submit it to a German court or office.

  • Deed, judgment, or ruling? We translate your divorce documents.

Some call it a divorce decree, others a divorce certificate, and for some, it's a divorce order. All three terms refer to the same thing. What matters is the content and legal validity of the documents and the fact that they constitute official or court-issued proof confirming that the former spouses are legally divorced. The wording is irrelevant to us – we translate your divorce documents with an officially recognized certification, regardless of the terminology used.

  • All or nothing – which sections need to be translated?

When faced with a multi-page divorce decree, you might wonder what exactly needs to be translated. Wouldn't an excerpt translation suffice for the document to be recognized here or abroad? Our answer: It might work, but it's not guaranteed. While some foreign institutions do accept abbreviated translations, a complete list of these countries and authorities unfortunately doesn't exist. Therefore, we recommend obtaining this information from the recipient well in advance. At Beglaubigung24, we only translate complete documents and charge per page for divorce decrees – ensuring you're always on the safe side.

  • Onward to the future – secured by our triple certification

A divorce marks the beginning of a new chapter in your life. To ensure your transition into this new future is as smooth as possible, we'll support you in every way we can – at least when it comes to the paperwork. Our sworn translators will provide you with a certified translation of your divorce documents, allowing you to navigate the bureaucratic processes quickly and without complications. You can rely on us: Our service is triple ISO certified – for our translation services (ISO 17100:2015), our quality management (ISO 9001:2015), and our information security (ISO/IEC 27001:2013).

  • When do I need to have a divorce decree translated?

There are generally three reasons for translating a divorce certificate:

    - You want to remarry and therefore need to submit a translation of your foreign divorce certificate.
    - You want to have your divorce in Germany recognized abroad.
    - You want to have your divorce from abroad recognized in Germany.

  • I don't have a divorce certificate yet – can I also have the divorce decree or divorce order translated?

You will usually receive your divorce certificate approximately four weeks after the court ruling. If you need a translation of a document proving your divorce sooner, you can also have the divorce decree or divorce order translated by us. Simply upload the relevant document at the top of this page and order your certified translation in just a few clicks.
